Home's Improver publishes home improvement guides written for US homeowners aging in place. Our beat is the work of staying in your home as you age: bathroom safety, mobility, smart-home tools, energy upgrades, and the state and federal programs that pay for some of it.

What makes us different

Most home content sites are written for everyone, which means they're written for nobody specifically. We write for one reader: a homeowner in their 60s or 70s, often the woman of the household, often researching for an aging parent. Our defaults reflect that reader:

  • Body type at 20 pixels. Most sites use 16 px, which reads like 14.5 on a senior's phone.
  • Contrast at 7:1 or higher on body text. WCAG calls 4.5:1 "passing"; we don't think passing is good enough.
  • One pick per problem. If we can't pick a clear winner from our tests, we don't write the article.
  • Citations on every claim. If we say falls happen here, we link to the CDC report. If we say a tax credit expired, we link to the IRS.
  • Named reviewers. Bathroom-safety articles are reviewed by an occupational therapist. Heat-pump articles are reviewed by an HVAC contractor.

How we make money

Some of our articles include affiliate links. When you buy through one, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. We disclose affiliate relationships under FTC 16 CFR § 255 on every monetized article. We never accept payment for product recommendations, only for referral clicks after the recommendation. Our test process and rankings do not depend on whether a retailer offers an affiliate program.

Editorial team

Our editorial process and reviewer credentials are documented in the editorial policy. Author bylines link to verifiable credentials in their respective registries (NBCOT for occupational therapists, NAHB for CAPS specialists). When we make a factual error, we log the correction at /corrections/.
